The Los Angeles Unified School District is cautioning that some phony law enforcement officers might approach as students get ready for another day of walkouts in opposition to President Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said on social media that in recent days, some individuals have approached members of the district’s community posing as Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
According to reports, certain members of our community have been approached by people posing as law enforcement or ICE officers, Carvalho stated. «This has the effect of making our communities fearful.»
In order to deal with any possible impersonators, he noted, the district is collaborating with authorities.
On Thursday, students throughout the district are organizing a third day of walkouts. As Trump issues executive orders to tighten access to the U.S.-Mexico border and increase deportation measures, walkouts are taking place.
Under those Trump-signed directives, ICE officers are now permitted to make arrests in «sensitive areas,» such as schools and places of worship.
According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, «this action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and catch criminal aliens—including murderers and rapists—who have illegally come into our country.» It will no longer be possible for criminals to hide in American churches and schools in order to evade capture.
